Highlander is a new custom design. I have long been enthralled with the weapons and tools of my ancestors and finally decided that the time was nigh to make one.

The Highland dirk has a long history and can range in size. Originally made often from a broken sword blade which gives the distinct shape, size can vary from 9 inches up to 15 inches on the

HIGHLANDER

Highlander is a new custom design. I have long been enthralled with the weapons and tools of my ancestors and finally decided that the time was nigh to make one.

The Highland dirk has a long history and can range in size. Originally made often from a broken sword blade which gives the distinct shape, size can vary from 9 inches up to 15 inches on the

blade.

This example has a 9 inch distally tapered blade that is 40 mm wide at the guard and tapers down to about 23 mm before curving to the tip. The blade thickness at the guard is 6 mm and tapers to 4 mm at the tip. There is a deep tapering fuller on both sides that runs for 113 mm before it tapers out.

The handle is of hidden tang construction but still remains robust. The tang at the base is 20 mm wide and tapers to 14 mm at the junction where the threaded end for securing the pommel nut begins. the tang remains 6.34 mm thick throughout. The threaded tip on the tang is not welded on but rather turned from the same section of steel that encompasses the blade making it extra strong. The blade is hand forged 80CRV2 steel hardened to approx 60 HRC.

What is the handle? The handle is made from a solid block of Dyed and Stabilised Curly Birch and the fittings are brass with a black G10 spacer on the pommel. The carving on the upper and lower grip is all carved by hand.

The attractive scabbard is all full grain leather with a brass plate on the tip.

At this time this is solely a custom piece and may not be repeated as a stock item but will remain by order only. The handle material will not be repeated.
