Production scheduling

Production Scheduling is constantly changing but there are a few criteria I try to keep to.

How do I choose what knives are next to go into production? Well this depends on whether you are asking about current stock or new models.

For current stock I look at what knives website visitors are looking at, those that are receiving a greater number of views are prioritised. When looking at new models a custom labelled version is released first and if the interest is there it will maybe go to production and be a regular feature . There are currently about 25 knives that are regularly produced, of those there are approximately 10 that are made more frequently.

I have lost count of the number of deleted lines that just didn’t sell very well.

When you consider that there is approximately 4 days work to produce each knife not including the leather work, it takes a little time to get all models made. All current stock models are always available to backorder if they are not currently in stock.

What Happens when you Backorder a knife?

When a backorder is placed that will immediately get moved to the front of the que for production, often when a backorder is made the resulting knife will be more unique than those in stock as the selected timber for the handle are not always available or they may take to long to get into stock so you will get a composite handle made up of at least 2 timbers creating a unique knife.
