Australian Made Knives
At Saxon Knives Australia we design and create Australian Made Knives.
What does this mean?
When you are looking for a knife to suit your task, you can buy an off the shelf knife from a major store. These often are mass produced and sometimes of questionable quality. Or you can go to a studio and have a Custom Australian made knives, made to suit you and your needs.
Store Stock or Custom
At Saxon Knives we have off the shelf items. The difference being these are hand forged by the smith to exacting standards from quality locally sourced materials and are all Australian Made Knives.
We can also work with you to design a knife specifically tailored to you. You can choose the size and shape, the handle materials even the type of steel used. Bear in mind that we only use High Carbon Steel as it has the best qualities for edge retention, we do not under any circumstances use stainless steel.
Stainless steel is corrosion resistant so many believe this is good for a knife. Well yes it is but only to a point.
Stainless steel comes in many varieties and only some of them will harden, essential for a knife.
Of those that will harden the process to harden them is expensive and must be sent out to a third party to have done. Even once this is done stainless steel doesn’t stay sharp as long as High Carbon steel meaning you need to sharpen your knife more often.
We believe in giving you the best Australian Made Knives we can and this is why we only use High Carbon steel and no stainless steel.

Bladesmithing is about more than just steel. A good Custom hand forged blade need both form and function. Good form means it is pleasing to look at while good function means it will perform it’s given task. We aim to incorporate both into every knife we produce.
